Why I self-host
I self host everything because I got kind of obsessed with the one can control of the services and apps. Where now that AI is here it's literally possible to do anything. The barrier is not that one needs to write 1k-1m lines of code but that the vision needs to be there and a technical understanding. I have gained lots of my experience with being annoyed at bad apps and slow manual processes, where I changed, "hacked", stitched together solutions and built an understanding of internal structures of apps and processes from the outside perspective. And now I kind of just want a well streamlined process and help people get something they need and not something they think they want and regret later, because it was what they needed but can't use because it's not tailored enough. It's insane what AI agents can do! Spin up and customize whatever to fit your need. From hardware to software to mods to tweaks to processes and standards and guides. AI agents have a unique perspective and opportunity to do insane stuff, like security trends and understanding the market, with data and information one needs to be an expert. But it's hard to use it and understand how it works and what one can do with it. Then the notion everyone can make an app and program a system is not wrong, but it's still hard to make a good system. And that needs experience. And it's the same with AI agents. Even if one can make a good app without it, it doesn't mean one can scale it up to a 100 man project alone with AI agents. But with enough time and understanding and having failed lots of times, it's something one can do. And I argue I have done that!
